United States To Buy Heavy Water From Iran
United States will be purchasing 32 metric tons of heavy water from Iran for $8.6 million.
Heavy water is a component of nuclear reactors. The US is unable to make it domestically and the trade will help Iran meet the terms of nuclear deal to curb atomic program in exchange for billions of dollars in sanctions relief.
Heavy water is also used in research and medical. It helps in producing top manufacture weapons-grade plutonium. It is not radioactive and formed with a hydrogen isotope.
The sale will be made by the Department of Energy to Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee.
According to Wisconsin Republican, House Speaker Paul Ryan, the component purchase would subsidize nuclear program of Iran.
He said, “For Tehran, the nuclear agreement is the gift that keeps on giving… It’s yet another unprecedented concession to the world’s leading state-sponsor of terrorism.”
Under the deal Iran must sell excess supply of heavy water as well as enriched uranium on the international market.
Members of Congress meanwhile have criticized the deal blaming Obama is giving Iran more than what it is entitled for.
The Energy Department released a statement saying, “The United States will not be Iran’s customer forever… It is exclusively Iran’s responsibility to find a way to meet its commitments, whether that is by selling, diluting or disposing of future stocks of heavy water to remain within the limit.”http://www.dailynewsz.com/united-states-to-buy-heavy-water-from-iran/http://www.dailynewsz.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/United-States-To-Buy-Heavy-Water-From-Iran.jpghttp://www.dailynewsz.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/United-States-To-Buy-Heavy-Water-From-Iran-300x300.jpgBusinessScienceworld newsheavy water, iran, nuclear reactor,United States
