United States President-elect Donald Trump said Thursday they should expand their nuclear capability, contradicting the efforts of previous presidents to reduce the role of nuclear weapons.

The statement may be a response to the speech of Russian President Vladimir Putin in capital Moscow vowing strengthening of their nuclear missiles.

Putin said they need to bolster nuclear forces in the country.

Without elaborating Trump tweeted they must strengthen and expand its nuclear forces until the world comes to senses regarding nukes.

Incoming White House communications director Jason Miller said the president-elect was referring to nuclear proliferation threat and also the critical need to prevent those.

However, the use of word “expand” is still not very clear whether Trump would reverse agreements like the New Start treaty that was signed with Russia in 2010 to have modest reductions in strategic nuclear forces.

Meanwhile, Global Zero executive director Derek Johnson said, “The use of even a single nuclear weapon, anywhere in the world, would be a global humanitarian, environmental and economic disaster… A nuclear buildup in the U.S. and Russia only makes that nightmare scenario more likely.”

In 2009 Presdient Barack Obama said to a cheering crowd in Prague they would lead an effort to pursue rules and treaties to result with a world without any nuclear weapon.
