Church Of England To Vote On New Sexuality Policy For Transgender People
Transgender people may soon be granted rights to get their marriages conducted in churches. The current rule bans of such services.
The Church of England is learned to be voting whether such special services should be allowed amid protests Bible states humans are just created as male or female. Its four-day general synod meeting started on Friday in York.
However, the supporters to transgender argue the Church should welcome such people and mark their transition and this would be a help to them who are undergoing the trauma of transition.
As of now the Church conducts services like marriages, christenings, and blessings, but not welcoming service of transgender Christians to their new identity. The governing body will be deciding on the motion.
Meanwhile, the general synod of Church of England voted Saturday favouring ban on so-called conversion therapy saying it would help the gays in altering their sexuality.
The right group said even though debate was emotional, but the vote is conclusive. The liberal Anglicans see the vote as a victory amid wide splits still over sexuality.
Justin Welby, Archbishop of Canterbury, said the Church will be coming up with new rules on marriage and stance on sexuality in three years.
